- Championed Santa Clara’s Youth Soccer Park project and the creation of three professional caliber fields and a sports complex to serve Santa Clara youth soccer teams

- Funded a new Teen Center, to include a coffee bar, computer/homework center, lounge and conference rooms
- Promoted creation of new parks in Santa Clara, including the War Memorial Park
- Led the fight to open an expanded senior center, on-time and under budget
Technology
- Promoted technology use by the City of Santa Clara, including an online permitting process and a new City homepage. Supported creation of the Department of Information Technology
- Organized a public-private partnership to create a countywide card catalog. Ensured that Santa Clara’s new public library would have at least 100 new public access internet terminals
- Supported and recruited economic development and expansion in the high tech industry
Transportation
- Supports bringing BART to Santa Clara
- Supported the 2000 & 2006 Measure A campaign for transportation campaign, yielding $5.9 billion to fund a comprehensive transportation strategy for Silicon Valley.
- Worked for strong transportation strategies as a member of the VTA Policy Advisory Committee, Caltrain Subcommittee, and the SCVTA Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor
